What do you need in order to pick up an order?

The branch or supplier, your account name, and the PO or will-call number so the counter will release it. If the branch requires a named person on the pickup authorization, say so up front and that can be arranged before the run.

Can one run cover more than one supplier?

Yes — that is a multi-stop run. Pulls from a couple of branches can be consolidated into a single drop at your jobsite. The multi-stop delivery page covers how that gets sequenced.

Do you pay for the material at pickup?

No. The order stays on your account with the supplier. This is transportation of material that is already yours and already released for pickup — purchasing and payment at the counter are not part of the service.

What if the order isn't fully staged on arrival?

It happens. The counter gets worked to have it pulled, but wait time at the branch is one of the factors that affects the run, and you hear about it while it is happening rather than after.
